Biography

Saeko Yazaki is a Senior Lecturer in Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Glasgow, with a background in History from Gakushuin University in Tokyo. After completing her BA, she pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Edinburgh focusing on Islamic Middle Eastern Studies. Her doctoral research centered on early Sufism, culminating in a thesis about the tenth-century Sufi preacher, Abu Talib al-Makki. Her scholarly interests include comparative studies of Sufism and Zen, sustainable religious practices, and the interaction between Japanese traditions and Islamic teachings. She has contributed to numerous academic projects and events aimed at fostering understanding of religious literacy and cultural awareness in the context of Islam and Japan. Saeko's research has also explored the socio-political dimensions of religious practices and clothing, particularly as they relate to environmental sustainability and cross-cultural relations.
