Dr. Sahani Pathiraja

Biography

Sahani Pathiraja is a lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the UNSW Sydney. His research focuses on bridging the gap between theory and application in data science methods. His overarching goals include developing stronger connections between mathematical and statistical foundations and data science applications. His primary research areas are Monte Carlo methods, sequential Bayesian inference, and stochastic analysis involving McKean-Vlasov type non-linear filtering methods. He is also interested in quantifying model uncertainty and real-time estimation of non-stationary model parameters. Pathiraja is particularly motivated by applications in environmental and biomedical sciences, striving to motivate new theoretical developments and ensuring these theories are relevant for practical applications.
