Biography

Saidul Islam is a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at King’s College London, specializing in Organic Chemistry. He earned his MChem in Chemistry with a focus on Medicinal Chemistry and graduated with First Class Honors. Saidul completed his PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Manchester, where his research concentrated on the chemical origins of life. Following his doctorate, he held a postdoctoral position at Queen Mary University of London, concentrating on organometallic chemistry and catalysis. His academic journey included a Research Fellowship at University College London in prebiotic systems chemistry, before joining King’s College London in 2022. His research interests include prebiotic chemistry, green chemistry, and catalysis, with a focus on understanding the formation of nucleic acids and organic cofactors under prebiotic conditions. In addition to his research, Saidul is committed to educating the next generation of chemists and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
