Biography

Saiful Islam is a Professor of Materials Modelling at the Department of Materials, University of Oxford. He completed his Chemistry degree and PhD from University College London in 1988, where he worked under Richard Catlow FRS. His career includes a research fellowship at Eastman Kodak Labs in New York and faculty positions at the University of Surrey and the University of Bath. Saiful is also a Professorial Fellow at St Anne's College, Oxford, and has served on the RSC Board of Trustees and as a Patron for Humanists UK. His research focuses on understanding atomistic processes in energy materials, particularly concerning lithium batteries and perovskite solar cells. He leads the Faraday Institution CATMAT project, which aims at developing next-generation cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Saiful has received numerous awards for his work, including the Royal Society Chemistry Environment & Energy Prize and the Royal Society Hughes Medal.
