Biography

Sainyam Galhotra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University. He is a Computing Innovation Fellow pursuing postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago. His research aims to develop data science tools for effective and responsible analytics, leveraging techniques in causal inference, data management, and theoretical computer science. Additionally, his work is focused on understanding aspects of trustworthy system design, including robustness, explainability, and fairness. Sainyam received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst under the supervision of Barna Saha. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2014 with guidance from Prof. Amitabha Bagchi. Before joining UMass, he worked for a year as a budding scientist at the Xerox Research Centre in India, Bangalore. He is actively seeking students to work with and encourages interested individuals to apply. Sainyam has received multiple accolades, including being a Rising Star in Data Science at the Data Science Institute at the University of Chicago.
