Biography

Sakae Ikeda, DVM, is an Associate Scientist at the McPherson Eye Research Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He obtained his DVM in Veterinary Medical Science from the University of Tokyo in 1997 and subsequently completed postdoctoral studies in Genetics at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor from 1997 to 2003. Dr. Ikeda’s research interests are focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that regulate the coordinated proliferation, differentiation, and movement of corneal epithelial cells. His current work investigates the molecular pathways and defects in cytoskeletal organization that lead to abnormal proliferation and differentiation of corneal epithelial cells, as well as corneal neovascularization, primarily utilizing mouse models. Additionally, he is involved in research elucidating the genetics of retinal diseases, contributing to the broader understanding of ocular health and disease.
