Biography

Salam Hussain is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia and a Consultant Psychiatrist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. His focus areas include Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and Emergency Psychiatry, where he also leads the Neuromodulation Unit. He is a qualified psychiatrist and a Fellow of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, as well as an International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He researches neuropsychiatric complications in medically ill patients and is particularly focused on the efficacy and side effects of Neuromodulation techniques, including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS). His teaching contributions include courses on Emergency Psychiatry and management of violence and aggression for emergency physicians and GPs, as well as supervising trainees and medical students during their clinical placements. Dr. Hussain's ongoing research encompasses projects evaluating mental health presentations in emergency settings and comparing different electrode placements for ECT. He actively engages in research related to UN Sustainable Development Goals.
