Dr. Sally Chisholm

Biography

Sally Chisholm is a professor of viola at the Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she has developed an extensive career in chamber music. She is a founding member of the Pro Arte Quartet and has performed numerous concerts across Eastern Europe and Asia, including a presentation of concerts in North Korea and multiple appearances at the Marlboro Music Festival. Chisholm has won accolades at the Weiner International Chamber Music Competition and has been a finalist in New York’s Naumburg Competition. As a principal violist for the Chicago Philharmonic and the Joffrey Ballet, she has also engaged in educational initiatives, teaching viola master classes at the Manhattan School of Music. In 2019, she premiered the Viola Sonata by John Harbison and is scheduled for more premieres in 2024. Her students have gone on to play in major orchestras and become recognized educators in their fields. Chisholm continues to contribute to the music community, performing and collaborating with distinguished musicians globally.
