Sally Freeman is a Reader in organic and medicinal chemistry at the University of Manchester. She completed her BSc in Chemistry at the University of Leicester in 1982 and obtained her PhD in Organophosphorus Chemistry from the same institution in 1985. Freeman was awarded a SERC-NATO Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard University, where she worked under the supervision of Professor Jeremy Knowles. She returned to the UK in 1987 to undertake a lectureship at Aston University's School of Pharmacy and was awarded a Lister Fellowship in 1989. In 1994, she moved to the University of Manchester, progressing to Senior Lecturer in 1997 and becoming a Reader in 2009. Freeman’s research focuses on inositol phosphate chemistry and the design and synthesis of drugs for the treatment of various conditions, including cancer, malaria, inflammation, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and genetic eye disorders. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and actively participates in several professional bodies, including the Lister Institute of Preventative Medicine.
