Biography

Sally Hopewell is a Professor at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. She leads the Clinical Trials Evidence Synthesis Theme at the Oxford Clinical Trials Unit, where she is involved in the design and delivery of clinical trials. With an h-index of 80, she has published over 300 research studies contributing to the development of key reporting guidelines like CONSORT 2025 and SPIRIT 2025. Her research interests focus on the design and conduct of randomized trials, systematic reviews, data sharing, and the development of core outcome sets. She has worked at the MRC-funded programme related to CONSORT and continues to collaborate with the Centre d’Epidemiologie Clinique at the University of Paris Descartes. Sally has served as a co-chief investigator on NIHR funded trials, engaging in key areas of paediatric and adult rehabilitation within musculoskeletal sciences. Her teaching experience spans Universities of Oxford and Paris Descartes, as well as the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
