Biography

Sally Zacharias joined the University of Glasgow in 2012 as a lecturer in the School of Education, specifically within the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) team. With a rich background in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), she has taught in various international contexts, including the UK, France, and Germany, catering to both children and adults. Sally is the programme lead for the MEd/MSc TESOL programmes and serves as the deputy Postgraduate Taught Director. Her research focuses on developing Language Awareness among educators and content specialists, exploring the social, cognitive, and cultural dimensions of language pedagogy and assessment practices. She employs cognitive linguistics and metaphor theory in her work to enrich language education. Currently, she is involved in a Learning and Teaching Development Fund project aimed at enhancing digital technologies in teacher training materials. Sally actively supervises postgraduate students and has contributed to numerous publications and grants in the field of language education. Notably, she was awarded the Richard Pemberton prize for her student paper in 2016 and received a Teaching Excellence Award as part of the TESOL team at the University of Glasgow.
