Dr. Salvador Borges Neto

Biography

Salvador Borges-Neto is a Professor of Radiology at Duke University Medical Center and the Medical Director of Nuclear Cardiology at the Duke Heart Center. He holds a medical doctorate from the Federal University of Fluminense in Brazil, where he also completed his internal medicine residency. Following this, he completed a Cardiology Fellowship at Antonio Pedro University Hospital in Brazil and furthered his education with a fellowship in Nuclear Cardiology at Methodist Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He has held several research fellowships, including at Harvard University and Duke University, where he specialized in Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Borges-Neto has published over 130 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has been an active lecturer internationally. His research interests lie primarily in cardiac imaging, particularly its prognostic utility in various cardiovascular diseases, and he has pioneered the development of large Nuclear Cardiology databases. He has made significant contributions to the field through his involvement in clinical trials and has played a vital role in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors, contributing to Duke's establishment as a reference center for this condition. Dr. Borges-Neto is a founding member of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and holds fellowships in several prestigious medical associations including the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association.
