Salvatore Salamone’s current research interests include structural health monitoring, non-destructive evaluation, ultrasonic sensing methods for smart structures, wave propagation in solids, and digital signal processing for pattern recognition. Before joining the Cockrell School at UT Austin as a professor in civil engineering, Salamone served as an assistant professor at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Palermo, Italy, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. His research has received support from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute. Salamone has published 33 peer-reviewed journal papers and 50 conference papers and presentations. His work has been recognized with the 2014 Achenbach Medal, an international award that honors outstanding contributions in structural health monitoring. Additionally, he received the 2011 Faculty Grant Award from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing.
