Dr. Sam Cassidy

Biography

Sam Cassidy is a Lecturer (Teaching) in the Inorganic Chemistry section at University College London (UCL). He completed his BSc in Analytical Chemistry at the Technological University of the Shannon in Limerick, and returned to Dublin to obtain his MSc in Nanotechnology from the Physics Department at University College Dublin. Following this, Sam joined the Molecular Modelling Materials Science Centre for Doctoral Training, part of the Carmalt Parkin Research Group. During his time at UCL, he completed a Master of Research in Engineering Doctorate focusing on research related to superhydrophobic antimicrobial surfaces. Sam has spent a year teaching at King's College London, where he taught inorganic and physical chemistry. A significant part of his work at KCL involved outreach and programs aimed at increasing the participation of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is actively involved in several committees at UCL, including the Humanities, Arts and Sciences Research Ethics Committee, the Departmental EDI Committee, the Outreach and Public Engagement Committee, and the Inorganic Teaching Coordinator role in his department.
