Sam’s research focuses on chronic suppurative lung disease in children and young people, particularly on non-invasive monitoring of early disease changes. He is interested in patient-reported outcome measures in respiratory disease and novel methods for small airways assessment. Sam is passionate about building capacity for clinical academic careers among healthcare scientists, allied health professionals, nurses, and midwives. As Associate Director of Professions Allied Healthcare at King’s Clinical Academic Training Office, he works across King’s Health Partners to improve access and opportunities for healthcare professionals wanting to pursue a clinical academic career. He is the Programme Lead for the NIHR South London Internship for Health Care Professionals and has previously led the AHP Clinical Academic Careers project at Evelina Children’s Hospital. He has held a HEE/NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic Clinical Lectureship and currently holds the NIHR Senior Clinical Practitioner Research Award, along with numerous small grants from national and local charities. Sam collaborates with patient groups to deliver and design research, and has appeared on BBC’s Operation Ouch, performing lung function tests on patients with cystic fibrosis.
