Biography

Sam Perry is a Senior Teaching Fellow in Chemistry at the University of Southampton, focusing on the design, development, and delivery of new materials for practical physical chemistry education. Sam began his career in Chemistry at the University of Southampton, where he completed his MChem (Hons) in 2012 and his PhD in 2016, under the supervision of Dr. Guy Denuault, developing new methods in pulsed electrochemistry. Following his doctoral studies, he moved to McGill University in Montréal, where he worked on various electrochemistry research projects, including corrosion and biosensing under Dr. Janine Mauzeroll. Sam actively contributed to the graduate education program, teaching in both practical and theoretical areas of physical chemistry, which led to him being awarded a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy. After returning to Southampton, he took on the role of Research Fellow, participating in numerous innovative research projects in green electrochemical synthesis and energy development, while also teaching as part of the Physical Chemistry and Chemical Engineering modules. He eventually transitioned to the role of Senior Teaching Fellow in Physical Chemistry, where he seeks new strategies to enhance student learning and wellbeing in laboratory environments.
