Biography

Sam Wang is a professor of neuroscience at Princeton University and the director of the Electoral Innovation Lab. He is an alumnus of the California Institute of Technology, where he received his B.S. with honors in physics. Wang continued his education at Stanford University School of Medicine, earning a Ph.D. in neuroscience in 1993. He conducted postdoctoral research at Duke University Medical Center and at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies. In the mid-1990s, he worked on science education policy for the U.S. Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources. Wang joined the faculty at Princeton University in 2000 and holds affiliate appointments in the Program in Law and Public Affairs, Center for Cognitive Science, Program in Quantitative and Computational Biology, and the Center for Information Technology Policy. His lab investigates how brains learn from sensory experiences and the relevance of these processes to autism. His neuroscience research has been recognized and supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, W.M. Keck Foundation, Rita Allen Foundation, Nancy Lurie Marks Family Foundation, and the McKnight Foundation. Wang is also a member of the New Jersey Governor’s Council on Medical Research and Treatment of Autism and has authored popular science books including "Welcome to Your Brain" and "Welcome to Your Child's Brain," which are available in 20 languages.
