Biography

Samantha Barnes is a PhD student focused on cancer immunotherapy, specifically in the Cancer Immunotherapy Team. She is supervised by Dr. Bree Foley, Dr. Emma de Jong, Dr. Sonia Fernandez, Dr. Alison McDonnell, and Dr. Jason Waithman. Before pursuing her PhD, Samantha worked as a research assistant within the team, completing her Master of Pathology project in 2020. Her research primarily addresses NK cell biology and adoptive cell therapy, aiming to utilize advanced bioinformatics platforms to understand the molecular drivers that enhance NK cell function. The ultimate goal of her work is to identify novel targets that can improve the efficacy of NK cell therapies for leukemia. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Engagement Committee for the Western Australia branch of the Australian New Zealand Society for Immunology (ASI) since 2021.
