Dr. Samantha Breslin

Biography

Samantha Breslin is a faculty member in the Department of Anthropology at Memorial University of Newfoundland. With an academic background that includes a Bachelor of Mathematics with Honours in Computer Science (Co-op) and Joint Honours in Anthropology from the University of Waterloo, along with a Master’s and PhD in Anthropology from Memorial University, she has cultivated a strong interdisciplinary approach that bridges anthropology with technology. Her research interests encompass Computing Cultures, Entrepreneurship, Gender, Labour, and Social Inequality, which are reflected in her published work that navigates topics from Human-Computer Interaction to the cultural dimensions of coding in computer science education. Breslin has authored several scholarly articles and a forthcoming book titled 'Render World: Coding Exclusions Computer Science Education'. She actively engages in academic discourse on gender dynamics within the technology sector, exploring the intersection of education, workplace norms, and societal expectations. Through her work, she seeks to contribute to the understanding of how cultural narratives shape and are shaped by technological practices.
