Dr. Samantha King

Biography

Samantha King is a Professor and the Director of the Sociocultural Studies of Sport at Queen's University. She is a trained cultural studies and sociology scholar with a focus on interdisciplinary studies pertaining to body, health, and sport. Her research engages with feminist, queer, and critical race theories, examining a broad variety of topics including the politics and philanthropy of breast cancer as discussed in her book 'Pink Ribbons, Inc.' and encompassing trends in drugs and food culture. King has been involved in mentoring graduate students at various levels, encouraging qualitative research into the embodied dimensions of consumer culture. Recent graduates under her guidance have explored critical themes such as student mental health and cultural aspects of international sporting narratives. She has a strong publication record, having authored and co-authored multiple articles in leading journals, and is an advocate for the inclusion of diverse perspectives in health and physical culture studies.
