Dr. Samantha Meyer

Biography

Professor Samantha Meyer is an academic in the School of Public Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo. Her expertise lies in social theories of trust and risk, with a focus on the methodological approaches to public health research. Her work explores the complexities of social structural factors that shape population health, particularly in vulnerable populations. Professor Meyer's research investigates how trust in government and health policy influences health behavior, with an emphasis on addressing misinformation. She has played a significant role in developing measures of trust in governmental healthcare systems to aid intervention research aimed at rebuilding trust among populations. As a member of the Executive Committee of the TRuST scholarly network at the University of Waterloo, she is actively involved in promoting research addressing these pivotal issues. Professor Meyer has significant teaching interests and is currently accepting graduate students for research focusing on (dis)trust in health behaviors and health communication. Her educational background includes a BA Honours in Anthropology from McMaster University and a PhD in Public Health from Flinders University, Australia.
