Biography

Samantha Pauls has a strong background in cross-disciplinary research involving immunobiology, lipid biology, and metabolic disease. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba in 2016 and then received further training as a postdoctoral fellow at the Canadian Centre for Agri-Food Research in Health and Medicine (CCARM). She joined the College of Pharmacy in 2021, where she is engaged in research themes related to Molecular Biotherapeutics. Her research includes studying the inappropriate activation of innate immune cells such as monocytes and macrophages, which contributes to chronic diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Pauls is committed to supporting the professional development of graduate students within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, facilitating their transition into successful careers. Currently, she is accepting Master's students and PhD candidates in her lab. Her research focuses on exploring pharmacological and dietary interventions to restore health by targeting immune-metabolic pathways.
