Dr. Samarpita Basu

Biography

Samarpita Basu is an Instructional Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University, where she focuses on engaging students in the study of biology. She joined the faculty in 2023 and has developed courses that cover foundational concepts in biology, including microbiology and molecular cellular biology. Her teaching aims to enhance students' understanding of the subject and to provide them with knowledge of departmental resources that can assist them in their academic pursuits. Prior to her appointment at Texas A&M University, Basu earned her Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the University of Kalyani in 2007 and went on to complete her Ph.D. in 2016 from the Centre for the Environment at the Indian Institute of Technology. She also conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California, further enriching her expertise in the field. With a strong commitment to education, she is dedicated to fostering a collaborative learning environment in her courses.
