Biography

Samrachana Adhikari joined NYU Grossman School of Medicine after earning a PhD in statistics from Carnegie Mellon University and completing a postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School. Her research interests focus on developing and implementing statistical machine learning tools to address real-world challenges in medicine, global health, and education. She has methodologically concentrated on statistical social network analysis, penalized regression for longitudinal data, and Bayesian causal inference. Adhikari is particularly passionate about creating machine learning infrastructures for low- and middle-income countries. Currently, she is the principal investigator on a NIH-funded study aimed at developing a fair and generalizable prediction algorithm for medication non-adherence. Adhikari is also recognized for her work as a recipient of the Johnson & Johnson Women STEM Scholar award, exploring agent-based models in the context of complex real-world interventions. Additionally, she has led a pilot study utilizing machine learning to identify predictors of mental health issues among Asian American children using a large nationally representative survey dataset, supported by the Center Study of Asian American Health.
