Samuel Bazzi’s research lies at the intersection of development economics and political economy, focusing on how individuals and nations adapt to the challenges of diversity in a global world. He is particularly interested in understanding the barriers to labor mobility and how migration shapes culture and policy to mitigate the adverse effects of diversity. Bazzi has regional expertise in Southeast Asia with a particular focus on Indonesia. In addition to his research, Bazzi serves as the Associate Dean at the School of Global Policy and Strategy and holds the position of Chancellor’s Endowed GPS Faculty Fellow. Prior to joining the University of California, San Diego, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Boston University and served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017. He is also a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Bazzi earned his doctorate in economics from UC San Diego in 2013.
