Biography

Samuël Kruizinga is an Associate Professor of War Studies and Modern History at the University of Amsterdam. He studied at Leiden, Paris, and Oxford, obtaining his PhD at the University of Amsterdam in 2011. His training as a historian has significantly influenced his insights into political, social, and economic sciences, war studies, and digital humanities. His interdisciplinary research focuses on conflict, resolution, and resilience in modern Europe, especially in terms of slow violence and grey zones related to war and peace. His work has received substantial funding, contributing to over 18 million euros, and he is currently the Principal Investigator for a project funded by the ERC and the Netherlands Research Council. Kruizinga’s publications appear in numerous languages and leading academic journals, and he is co-writing books on topics related to historical conflicts and contemporary warfare issues.
