Biography

Samuel N. Meisel received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, in 2020. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at Brown University. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Meisel completed two consecutive postdoctoral fellowships funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), one being an F32 fellowship and the other a K99 fellowship, at E. P. Bradley Hospital and Brown University's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. He joined the faculty at Boston University in 2024. Dr. Meisel's research primarily focuses on social relationships and peer caregiver dynamics, investigating how various factors such as temperament, school environment, and neighborhood contexts influence adolescent substance use treatment and etiology. His research is guided by a series of overarching questions regarding developmental pathways that lead to adolescent substance use, the critical components of effective treatments for adolescent substance use, and how developmental science can enhance the scaling and effectiveness of these treatments.
