Biography

Samuel Weiss is a lecturer at Harvard Law School, where he teaches courses on Prison Law. As the founder and Executive Director of Rights Behind Bars, he litigates conditions of confinement claims in prisons, jails, and immigration detention centers. Samuel has successfully won numerous cases on behalf of incarcerated plaintiffs in federal appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court. Before starting Rights Behind Bars, he worked on litigation concerning prison conditions and civil rights cases with organizations such as the ACLU’s National Prison Project, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. In addition to his legal career, Samuel enjoys reading fiction and spending time with his wife and son.
