Samuel Wiebe is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary, where he also serves as the Director of the Clinical Research Unit. Graduating from the University of Guadalajara in Mexico in 1983, he became certified in Internal Medicine from the National University of Mexico in 1988, and completed his neurology residency at the University of Western Ontario in 1993. His Masters in Epidemiology Biostatistics was obtained from McMaster University in 1994, followed by additional training in epilepsy and EEG at the London Health Sciences Centre. In 2004, he was recruited to Calgary as the Kinsmen Chair in Paediatric Neurosciences and currently holds the Hopewell Professorship in Clinical Neurosciences Research. A Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Dr. Wiebe has been elected Secretary General and Treasurer of the International League Against Epilepsy. His research interests encompass clinical research informatics, analytics, outcomes research in clinical neurosciences, randomized neurosurgical trials, quality of life assessments, and epidemiological research in evidence-based medicine. Dr. Wiebe actively mentors clinicians and researchers both nationally and internationally.
