Dr. Samuel Zeitlin

Biography

Samuel Garrett Zeitlin is a Lecturer in Modern Intellectual History at University College London. He specializes in the history of political thought, international relations, political philosophy, and intellectual history. His work on Francis Bacon explores themes of war and peace in Bacon's political philosophy, while his research on Carl Schmitt provides new interpretations of Schmitt's history and theories of law and state. Zeitlin co-edited a translation edition of Land and Sea, which won an award in the 'Religion' category at the Independent Publisher Book Awards in 2016. He is currently working on monographs about Bacon and Schmitt, as well as articles and edited volumes regarding Hobbes, Nietzsche, and the history of political thought. In addition to his role at UCL, he has previously taught at institutions including the University of California-Berkeley, University of Chicago, Queen Mary University of London, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen, and the University of Cambridge, where he served as a College Lecturer and Fellow at Corpus Christi College.
