Dr. Sandeep Agrawal

Biography

Sandeep Agrawal is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta, where he has served as the Associate Chair and the Inaugural Director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning. His research focuses on sustainable urban and rural planning, energy transition, Indigenous issues, and human rights. He has led significant projects, including the development of a Master of Science in Planning program and contributed widely to planning practice through research and professional writing. Dr. Agrawal has received numerous national and international research grants, including a $98.6M CFREF grant for projects at the University of Alberta. He has published extensively, including significant works like "Rights City: Problems, Progress, Practice" and "Municipal Boundary Battles". His teaching encompasses land use planning, development of research proposals, planning studios, and urban design. Additionally, he has held prior positions at Toronto Metropolitan University as the Associate Director and Founding Graduate Program Director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning. Dr. Agrawal's contributions to the field have earned him the Canadian Institute of Planners’ national academic award for significant contributions to planning education and research in Canada.
