Dr. Sandeep Agrawal

Biography

Sandeep Agrawal is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta. With a focus on sustainable urban and rural planning, his research spans various topics, including energy transition, Indigenous issues, and human rights. He has served as the Associate Dean for Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and is the inaugural director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning. His academic background includes past roles as the Associate Director and Founding Graduate Program Director at the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Toronto Metropolitan University. Agrawal has secured national and international grants, including a significant $98.6 million CFREF grant. He is an accomplished author, contributing to both academic articles and books that impact planning practices influenced by city bylaws, policies, and legislation. Notably, his works "Rights City: Problems, Progress, Practice" and "Municipal Boundary Battles" contribute to contemporary discussions on urban governance. As an educator, he teaches land use planning, research proposal development, and urban design, shaping the next generation of planners.
