Sander Leeuwenburgh received his Master’s degree (cum laude) in Materials Science Engineering from Delft University of Technology. He started his doctoral research in the Department of Dentistry at Radboud University Medical Center and obtained his PhD degree (cum laude) in 2006, focusing on the application of bioceramic coatings for bone-substituting implants. He has also studied piano at the Conservatory of Music in Arnhem, graduating with a Master’s degree (cum laude) in 2005. After serving as a visiting scholar at Rice University in Houston, USA, and Kyoto University in Japan, he joined Radboud University Medical Center's Department of Dentistry in 2006. In 2018, he was appointed Professor of Regenerative Biomaterials. He has received various scholarships and grants for his research from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, including VENI, VIDI, and VICI grants. His primary research interests revolve around the design of injectable self-healing biomaterials that can stimulate the regeneration of lost or damaged tissues by triggering the natural self-healing capacity of the human body.
