Biography

Sandie Blaise received her PhD in Romance Studies with a focus on French Francophone Studies from Duke University in 2019. Her research interests encompass contemporary Haitian literature and culture, migrant studies, as well as the marketing and circulation of literary works and identities. She has been involved in projects aimed at community-based language learning and innovation in public humanities. Notably, from 2018 to 2019, she served as a Duke Innovation & Entrepreneurship Graduate Fellow, where her project 'Language Matters: Innovating Programming for Community Engagement' investigated innovative methods to facilitate linguistic acquisition and cultural orientation for French-speaking refugees in the United States, particularly from African countries. Her efforts aimed to enhance both student learning and community outreach activities. Between 2014 and 2017, she collaborated with the Radio Haiti Archive, which serves as a trilingual repository (English, French, Haitian Creole) making radio broadcasts that document political, social, and cultural issues during the dictatorship accessible to the public.
