Biography

Sandra Bucerius is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alberta, where she received her PhD from the University of Frankfurt, Germany in 2009. Her research employs extensive qualitative methods to explore complex social settings that are often difficult to access, particularly focusing on criminal justice institutions and the experiences of marginalized communities. Her ongoing research examines the realities of life for prisoners and corrections officers, particularly in relation to the opioid crisis. She is dedicated to teaching, having instructed various undergraduate and graduate courses on topics within criminology, and values mentorship in fostering a collaborative academic environment.
