Biography

Prof. Sandra Hirche holds a professorship in Information-oriented Control at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Her research areas focus on control engineering and system theory, with an emphasis on intelligent, human-centered, and cooperative networked cyber-physical systems. She has developed novel analysis and control methods that provide mathematical guarantees for applications in robotics, human-machine systems, telepresence, and infrastructure systems. Prof. Hirche obtained her doctorate from TUM in 2005 after studying aerospace engineering at the Technical University of Berlin. She completed her postdoctoral research at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Tokyo from 2005 to 2007. In 2008, she became an associate professor at TUM and held her current chair starting in 2013. She coordinates the DFG Priority Program 'Cyber-Physical Networking' from 2016 to 2022 and has served as the Vice-President of the IEEE Control Systems Society during 2015-2016.
