Biography

Since 2013, Sandra Korte-Kerzel has been the Head of the Institute of Physical Metallurgy and Materials Physics at the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering, RWTH Aachen University, Germany. She is a full professor specializing in Materials Physics. Prior to her current role, she held a junior professorship in Mechanics of Materials at the Institute of General Materials Properties at Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nürnberg from 2011 to 2013. Korte-Kerzel was also a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Cambridge in the UK, working on the EPSRC Rolls-Royce Strategic Partnership from 2009 to 2011. Academically, Korte-Kerzel earned her PhD in 2010 from the University of Cambridge focused on Deformation Ceramics and Plasticity in Small Volumes, and holds a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, as well as an engineering diploma from RWTH Aachen University. Her research interests include materials physics and engineering, particularly in the fields of micromechanics and the properties of advanced materials.
