Biography

Sandra Lucas is an Associate Professor in the autonomous manufacturing construction materials research group within the Concrete Structures department at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her research aims to explore machine learning and data science to enhance the discovery and development of new construction materials that are functionally advanced and environmentally sustainable. This involves synthesizing materials that can embed functionalities capable of adapting to environmental conditions, thereby mitigating potential impacts. She is the project leader for several NWO-funded projects focused on smart, sustainable 3D-printed concrete. Before her current role, she was a senior lecturer in construction materials and sustainability at the University of Greenwich. Throughout her career, she has been involved in projects that foster collaboration between academia and industry, supported by funding agencies like Innovate UK. Sandra holds a BEng in ceramic glass engineering and an MSc in environmental management of materials, both from 2011, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Aveiro in Portugal. Additionally, she was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany and had research stints at EPSI ParisTech and Delft University of Technology. In 2014, she transitioned to the University of Greenwich.
