Biography

Dr. Sandra Mattar is a Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, with over 25 years of combined clinical and teaching experience. She is the Director of the Training Immigrant Refugee Health Center at Boston Medical Center and a founding member of the American Psychological Association's Division 56 (Trauma Psychology). Dr. Mattar has served as the Associate Dean and Associate Professor of the Graduate Counseling Program at Saint Mary’s College of California and has contributed to the APA Race Ethnicity Guidelines Task Force. Her research interests focus on the intersection of psychological trauma and culture, emphasizing immigrant and refugee mental health, multicultural international psychology, and trauma-informed education training. Currently, she holds the position of Associate Editor for the Journal of Psychological Trauma. Fluent in English and Spanish and conversational in Arabic and French, Dr. Mattar also has a Yoga Teacher certification and training in Buddhist studies. Her extensive work includes field research on war trauma, notably in Lebanon, where she applies her expertise to enhance psychological care for diverse populations.
