Dr. Sandrine Da Cruz

Biography

Sandrine Da Cruz is a member of the senior academic staff at KU Leuven and heads her research group in Molecular Neurobiology at VIB-KU Leuven. Her research focuses on the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). She has contributed significantly to the understanding of RNA binding proteins and their role in neuronal vulnerability and disease progression. Da Cruz is involved in multiple recent research projects aimed at unraveling contributions of key molecular players such as TDP-43 to disease pathogenesis, exploring the relationship between the extracellular matrix and neuromuscular junction integrity, and employing advanced techniques like Single-Cell Resolution Mass Spectrometry Imaging. She has published numerous articles in high-impact journals, highlighting the pathogenic mechanisms of ALS and FTD, and is recognized as a leading researcher in the field.
