Biography

Sandro Etalle leads the Security group, focusing on a multi-faceted approach to system security that covers both offensive and defensive aspects. His research addresses concrete security problems and explores the underlying fundamental issues at the core of system security. The group's strength lies in their ability to empirically and theoretically understand the entire security process, from attack generation to system management and policy specification with user aspects. His current research focuses predominantly on network monitoring and intrusion detection, with a particular emphasis on the security of industrial control systems. The research topics include policy specification and enforcement, as well as incident response. As a PhD advisor, Etalle founded the company SecurityMatters, which aims to bring research results to the market while providing insights into the evolving landscape of cybersecurity and leading new research challenges. His group's research spans crucial areas in the security of decentralized embedded systems, specifically in security policy specification and enforcement, security for embedded systems, and threat intelligence for defense. Etalle is committed to understanding key security challenges in these intersecting fields.
