Biography

Sang-Gook Kim is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his B.S. degree from Seoul National University in 1978, M.S. from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1980, and Ph.D. from MIT in 1985. His industry experience includes positions at Axiomatics Co. in Cambridge, MA, and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. He became the corporate executive director of Daewoo Corporation, where he directed the Central Research Institute of Daewoo Electronics Co. in 2000, before joining MIT. At MIT, he is currently the Micro/Nano Area Head and his research fields encompass product realization in both industry and academia, focusing on piezoelectric MEMS and energy harvesting systems including micro ultrasonic transducers and solar water splitting. He is a fellow of CIRP and ASME and an overseas member of the Korean National Academy of Engineering.
