Biography

Sangeeta Bhatia earned her BS from Brown University, followed by an MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. She also holds an MD from Harvard Medical School. Prior to her appointment at MIT, Bhatia held a tenured position at the University of California, San Diego. She is a prolific inventor and a passionate advocate for diversity in science and engineering. Bhatia has received numerous honors including the Lemelson-MIT Prize, known as the "Oscar of inventors," and the Heinz Medal for her groundbreaking inventions and advocacy for women in STEM fields. She is an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Director of the Marble Center for Cancer Nanomedicine at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at MIT. Bhatia has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine. Furthermore, she is a board member of Brown University and various biotechnology companies.
