Biography

Sangkyun Cho is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, holding a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He is a core faculty member of the Institute for NanoBioTechnology. His research focuses on the development of innovative therapies for fibrosis and related cardiovascular conditions, integrating tissue biomaterials engineering with multi-omics and molecular biology to address the underlying mechanisms of fibrosis, aging, and diseases such as cancer. Sangkyun earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he worked under the mentorship of Dennis Discher. He completed his postdoctoral training at Stanford University School of Medicine under Joseph Wu, MD, PhD. Cho has received several prestigious awards, including the NIH F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2020, the Paper of the Year Award from the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology in 2021, the American Heart Association Career Development Award in 2023, and the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award in 2023.
