Biography

Sanhong Yu obtained her medical degree from the Medical College of Southeast University in China and her Ph.D. in Immunology from Pennsylvania State University. Following her education, she completed postdoctoral training in Dr. Gordon Freeman's lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, where she investigated the role of immunotherapy using PD-1 and PD-L1 animal tumor models. Dr. Yu began her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine, and finished the remainder of her residency at Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University. After completing her residency, she pursued a two-year fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. During her fellowship, she undertook a general surgical pathology fellowship with a specific focus on genitourinary and soft tissue pathology, followed by a year dedicated to Cytopathology. In August 2023, Dr. Yu joined Yale Pathology Staff. She enjoys various aspects of general surgical pathology and cytopathology, with specific research interests in cytopathology and head and neck pathology. Dr. Yu has published 20 peer-reviewed publications.
