Dr. Sanjeev Bedi

Biography

Sanjeev Bedi is a Professor at the University of Waterloo in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. He is the founder of the Engineering IDEAs Clinic and holds the NSERC Chair in Immersive Design Engineering Activities. Professor Bedi leads the 5-Axis Surface Machining Lab and previously served as Director of Mechatronics Engineering. His research focuses on advanced manufacturing processes, including flank milling, NC controller design, and tool path planning for 5-axis machining. He has expertise in automated polishing, complex curve machining methods, and the development of machining process designs. Over the last 15-20 years, he has patented technologies related to water purification systems and has worked with local entrepreneurs on sports training machines. As a successful entrepreneur, he founded Bedi Engineering Software Solutions Inc., focusing on developing controller software for tube bending machines and writing geometric algorithms. Bedi holds ten patents, with technologies successfully transferred to companies like MAXTECH Consumer Products. His educational background includes a Doctorate in Engineering from the University of Victoria, a Master's in Mechanical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
