Professor Sankar Bhattacharya has a strong background in both industry and academia. He began his career in India as a design and commissioning engineer for coal-fired power stations and later worked in Thailand focusing on the utilization of agro-forestry residues for the production of gaseous fuels. After moving to Australia, he served as the Principal Research Engineer at the Lignite CRC and the Principal Process Engineer at Anglo Coal Australia. Additionally, he advises the Japanese Ministry of Economics, Trade and Industry (METI) on low-rank coal utilization and contributes to major publications by the International Energy Agency and acts as an expert reviewer for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
