Biography

Santosh Devasia is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he has been a faculty member since 2000. He directs the Precision Controls Laboratory and served as the Director of the Boeing Advanced Research Center from 2017 to 2022, focusing on the manufacturing and assembly of aircraft and spacecraft structures. He was also the founding Director of the Advanced Composites Center from 2019 to 2022, where he developed collaboration among academia, industry, and government and raised funding for the development of a Robotic Automated Fiber Placement system. Devasia has held the position of Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs in the College of Engineering at the University of Washington from 2014 to 2017. He earned a Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1988, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1990 and 1993, respectively. His current research interests include iterative control theory, human-machine interaction applications, distributed systems, and robotics.
