Sara Almeida is a PhD fellow in Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in infectious disease epidemiology. Her research primarily focuses on the epidemiology of diarrheal diseases in low-income urban settings, particularly in the context of climate-induced displacement. Currently, her PhD work, embedded in the WatScarce project, investigates the impact of water scarcity on pathogen transmission among climate-displaced migrants and established residents in low-income urban communities in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This project aims to uncover new insights into the transmission routes of hygiene-related pathogens and develop effective strategies for climate change adaptation. Sara has a solid background in public health research, having previously worked as a research assistant in the Global Health Section at the University of Copenhagen and at the Copenhagen Center for Disaster Research (COPE), where she contributed to studies on cholera, WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene), and diarrheal disease transmission. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Lisbon and a Master of Science in Parasitology from the University of Copenhagen. She received the Young Scientist Award from the Danish Society of Parasitology & the Danish Society for Tropical Medicine and International Health in 2016 for her master's thesis work.
