Biography

Sara Bartumeus is an Architect and Landscape Architect at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds affiliations with the Landscape Architecture program, the Center for the Study of Global Gender Equity, and the European Union Center at UIUC, as well as with MBLandArch at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Throughout her career, she has served in various public architecture schools in Barcelona and has participated in several planning committees. Bartumeus is a co-organizer of eight international biennials in landscape architecture and a co-founder of Renau Bartumeus, focusing on social housing and public space projects. Her work has received several national and international awards, including the 2021 AADIPA European Award for Architectural Heritage Intervention and the ACSA Diversity Achievement Honorable Mention. Her research interrogates the nature of collective public space and urban ecology, emphasizing the preservation of urban landscapes' tangible and intangible heritage.
